Sea Buckthorn Oil

Sea buckthorn oil benefits have been known for a long time and have been used in herbal medicine and cosmetics for years. Sea Buckthorn is a thorny tree commonly found in Asia and Europe.  Sea Buckthorn Oil (INCI: HIPPOPHAE RHAMNOIDES OIL) is extracted from its fruit or seeds of the tiny, orange-yellow, citrus-like berries it produces.

It has been found that sea buckthorn plant berries carry 10 times more vitamin C than an orange and are the third-highest source of vitamin E among plants.  Sea buckthorn oil is full of nutrients containing various essential fatty acids and antioxidants including vitamin A, C, vitamin E, antocyanins, and flavonoids.  Sea buckthorn extract has one of the highest concentrations of flavonoids and phenolic compounds.

Sea Buckthorn Oil Benefits include:

Antioxidant protection

Antioxidants are essential to maintaining healthy skin, and hair growth. When free radicals interact with your skin, they trigger oxidative stress—something that leads to accelerated skin aging and general stressed-out skin.  If you’re looking to fight those free radicals, sea buckthorn oil is worth adding to your routine. It is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, both alpha- and beta-carotene, vitamins B1, B2, and B6, vitamin E, fatty acids and flavonoids, Omega 3, 6, 9 and rarest Omega 7 and about 190 bioactive compounds.
Thanks to its rich antioxidant, fatty acid, and vitamin content, sea buckthorn oil can also help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s an antioxidant and therefore has some anti-aging benefits.

Deeply hydrating

Sea Buckthorn Oil contains essential fatty acids that may improve balanced hydration.  It may help to soften dry or rough skin and may soothe irritations. The high concentration of fatty acids, including omega fatty acids and phytosterols are incredibly nourishing and hydrating for the skin. Sea buckthorn oil can help as a moisturizing ingredient as it contains linoleic acid, which is found naturally in the sebum, so it may help to regulate moisture levels and overall help with hydration.

Helps to Reduce Cell Damage

Carotenes and Vitamin A in Sea Buckthorn Oil work to increase the skin-cell turnover rate, smoothing the skin’s surface.  It also plumps the skin by simulating the production of collagen. The framework that keeps your skin from sagging. Sea Buckthorn Oil nourishes parched skin and helps skin to turnover and can improve overall skin tone and texture and overall skin elasticity. Sea buckthorn oil can also even out skin tone and fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Omega-7 for Wound Healing

Once again, omega-7’s suspected anti-inflammatory properties came into question when scientists guessed that it could help when it came to wound healing.
They found that omega-7’s anti-inflammatory action aided in healing wounds and specifically during the phases of tissue rebuilding. This study showed that omega-7 actually accelerated wound healing. Palmitoleic acid is an omega-7 fatty acid rarely found in plant food sources, but sea buckthorn oil is one of the only plant-based sources of this unsaturated fatty acid. Palmitoleic acid, along with other fatty acids, can help to reduce inflammation.

Regulates oil production.

While you may immediately assume using oils on already oily skin types is unproductive, the opposite is true with certain botanical options—sea buckthorn oil included.  Studies have shown that sea buckthorn is acne-skin friendly as it helps normalize sebaceous glands from producing excess sebum.
